John's life has been very similar to that of Roy Hobbs, the main character in the book "The Natural", with the exception of the baseball part.
His quest for the moon was derailed when his lunar module hit a pothole on the corner of Roosevelt Ave and Willets Point Blvd in 1979.
It has recently been repaired and John is once again aiming for that big piece of cheese in the sky.
